Dukeshill was founded over twenty years ago, with a vision of producing the very best hams, cured the “old fashioned” way (where flavour and texture are more important than speed or yield), for a discerning public who were fed up by the bland offerings of the supermarkets.

Fred Kent left his native Wiltshire after returning from the Great War in 1919. He came to London where he established a string of retail outlets to share his passion for good food. Over the years, the 'butchering game' has changed along with customer expectations, and sadly all but one of the shops is left. He would be pleased to know that fine Scotch beef and English lamb is still a household favourite, but he would be suprised to see our selection of English and Continental cheeses, chutneys and preserves, and freshly prepared kitchen ready products.

The West Country Cold Smoker was originally designed to produce deliciously succulent cold smoked trout and salmon as a result of eight years of testing and tasting. Its unique design keeps the smoke and food compartments separate, thereby ensuring that the fish or meat remains cool, and is properly smoked. As well as trout and salmon you can cold smoke sea fish such as herring, haddock, cod or whiting, and of course, eels. You can cold-smoke pigeon, pheasant, venison and other game and meats. You can cold smoke cheese such as Cheddar. Our step-by-step guides tell you how to prepare and cure your fish and dehydrate them in salt, how to smoke your game and meats, and how to smoke your cheese. We tell you how to smoke, how long, what temperature, which type of dust, etc. - all in simple, easy-to-follow terms. Our trout and salmon card even tells you the best way to slice your fish up afterwards.

We are a small family-owned independent deli & grocer that opened in Muswell Hill in north London in 2005. We aim to be a one-stop shop for every day essentials and hard-to-find ingredients, so you will find our small shop literally crammed full. We pride ourselves on charging sensible prices as we believe that good food should be accessible to everyone whatever their budget. It's a shame that the effective marketing skills of the supermarkets so often convince people that the supermarkets are always the low cost option - look in most of the independent shops in Muswell Hill and you'll find that just isn't the case! Most of the products we sell can't be found in the supermarkets but for those products we have in common, our customers are regularly shocked to find we are cheaper (supermarkets do have to subsidise those £1 chickens somehow after all!). We also pride ourselves on our old-fashioned, attentive and friendly customer service - do let us know if you ever find that this isn't the case. As our on-line shop is a new venture for us, we hope that you will bear with us while we develop it. It is our aim to offer our full range of stock on-line, but that will take time. We can't send out anything that is frozen, and we need to figure out how to post our homemade cakes to you and keep them in one piece, with icing intact.

Inspired by the traditional fromageries found all over France, Peter Rich opened the first Jeroboams shop in London’s South Kensington in 1985. This shop sold a wide variety of cheeses, each sourced from farms and cheesemakers across Europe, which were individually matured by the Affineur and brought to perfection by expert staff before reaching the customer. While the emphasis was initially on cheese, Jeroboams also stocked a range of speciality foods including charcuterie, oils and foie gras. Most importantly, Jeroboams also stocked a wide selection of fine wines and champagnes. In 2005 Jeroboams was awarded the title 'Greater London Wine Merchant of the Year 2005' followed by the even more significant 'Regional Chain of the Year 2006' at the prestigious annual International Wine Challenge awards.

Paxton & Whitfield was first recorded as a partnership in 1797, but its origins began in 1742 when Sam Cullen set up a cheese stall in Aldwych market. As London became increasingly affluent Sam moved his cheese business closer to his wealthy customer base, near to Jermyn Street where there is still a shop today. He also took on two new partners - Harry Paxton and Charles Whitfield. Ironically it is their names, not his, which grace the shop fronts now. The Company's reputation grew steadily, culminating in 1850 with the honour of being appointed cheesemonger to HM Queen Victoria. It was the first of many Royal Warrants that the Company has held. While the earlier years were good for Paxton & Whitfield, times were tougher from the 1860s. Smart society's appetite for traditional English farmhouse cheese was fading in favour of Continental cheese and, in England, factory style production was becoming the established practice. Many artisan cheeses totally disappeared as small farmers sent their milk to industrial creameries. This trend continued throughout the two World Wars and, in the 1940s, with eggs, butter and cheese in short supply 93 Jermyn Street became an ordinary grocery shop. After World War II and a series of different owners, business improved as Paxtons rekindled their contacts with the traditional cheesemakers of rural Britain and started bringing in the best that Europe could offer. More recently two new Paxtons opened, in Stratford upon Avon and Bath not to mention their virtual shop on the web. Customers who value quality know they will always be able to find it at Paxtons. As Winston Churchill once observed "a gentleman only buys his cheese at Paxton & Whitfield".

For three centuries Fortnum & Mason has been committed to bringing the world's best food to Piccadilly – often from continents away. Fresh food, though, has always come from as close to these Isles as possible. Respecting this hemisphere's seasons has always seemed obvious to us: we've never really wavered from the path. We take extraordinary care over the origins of everything we sell. Every sprout, lobster, truckle and rib comes direct from suppliers we know intimately rather than from markets. If we’re not to uphold our own standards, who is?
